Dr. Robert I. Danoff is a clinical professor of family and community medicine at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University, as well as program director of the family medicine and combined family medicine-emergency medicine residency programs at Jefferson Health – Northeast. He is also a clinical professor at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Danoff was instrumental in moving the family medicine residency program forward to achieve ACGME accreditation and will graduate his 27th family medicine residency class at the conclusion of Academic Year 2022-2023. He also devised, organized, and gained approval for the combined family medicine-emergency medicine residency program 15 years ago, a program which continues to be very strong and that has educated and trained many residents to practice throughout the US.
When Dr. Danoff was director of medical education at Jefferson Health – Northeast (formerly known as Aria Health) he instituted block nights, removed the every-fourth day on-call schedule, and facilitated a program of resident wellness to ensure compliance with work hour limits and institute access to behavioral health services for residents and faculty members. He was also instrumental in recruiting a diverse resident and faculty member team that represents the population served by the programs.
Dr. Danoff is chair of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) Faculty Development and Program Directors’ Workshop, and chair of the ACOFP Annual Spring Conference and OMT [osteopathic manipulative treatment] Boot Camp. Additional national educational committee involvement includes the ACGME Review Committee for Family Medicine, and the ACGME’s Family Medicine Milestones 2.0 Work Group.
A leader in the community, Dr. Danoff serves as a family physician at Tillman Family Medicine Jefferson Health, as well as director of the Jefferson Health – Northeast COVID-19 testing and vaccination centers. Dr. Danoff also volunteers to help the homeless and medically underserved at JeffHope in Philadelphia, and facilitates community talks on health and wellness, including food and nutrition. Dr. Danoff has been actively involved for many years in providing sports physicals for students in low-income neighborhood settings, in addition to neighborhood health screenings. He is also one of a few doctors in his area who still goes on house calls.
Dr. Danoff has dedicated his professional career to patient care and medical education. He has served on several state congressional committees, and received multiple awards for his contributions to osteopathic family medicine, including ACOFP’s Distinguished Service Award, ACOFP’s Osteopathic Family Medicine Educator of the Year Award, the American Osteopathic Foundation’s Physician of the Year Award, the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians Public Service Award, the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Education at Sidney Kimmel Medical College, and the ACOFP Osteopathic Family Physician of the Year award, among others.
