Dr. Tom Yackel joined CenterWell in 2022 as National Chief Clinical Excellence Officer. In this role he collaborates with national leaders to develop evidence-based clinical pathways, clinical education, and reporting that ensure seniors consistently receive the highest quality care.
Dr. Yackel is board certified in internal medicine and clinical informatics. His diverse skills reflect his experiences in public and population health, clinical informatics and technology, health care innovation, clinical guideline development, practice plan leadership, and clinical integration.
Before joining CenterWell, Dr. Yackel was a professor of internal medicine, president of MCV Physicians, and senior associate dean for clinical affairs, all at Virginia Commonwealth University. Previously, he served as chief health information officer, chief clinical integration officer, and chief of value-based care at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). He has degrees in medicine and public health from The George Washington University and in medical informatics and business from OHSU.
Dr. Yackel is the past national chair of the Committee on Clinical Leadership of the American Hospital Association. He has published articles on the efficient use of electronic health records and value-based care. Dr. Yackel currently resides in Richmond, Virginia.
