Baldwin, Jr. Award recognizes institutions with accredited residency/fellowship programs that are exemplary in fostering a respectful, supportive environment for medical education and the delivery of patient care, which leads to the personal and professional development of learners.
Dr. Arnold Gold (1925-2018) was remembered and honored during the 2018 ACGME Annual Educational Conference Awards presentation. As a pediatric neurologist, his belief in the importance of an empathetic bedside manner inspired young doctors to practice compassionate patient care, and led to the creation of the Arnold P. Gold Foundation now run by his wife Sandra Gold.
“ A quintessential physician and humanist, Dr. Gold profoundly influenced medical training and patient care throughout his long career through his teaching and practice, as well as the activities of the Arnold P. Gold Foundation, established in 1988 with the help and support of his wife, Sandra, and his many patients, friends, and colleagues. Exemplifying the very essence of his belief in compassionate patient care and humanism, the Foundation has successfully partnered with many other organizations, utilizing education, role-modeling, publications, rituals, recognition, research, and national conferences to forward his passion and his practice.”
