The ACGME Annual Educational Conference, the largest gathering of GME professionals in the world, is full of activities and opportunities to learn and network. For international attendees, there is a wealth of content and events that may especially appeal to you, and we’ve listed some highlights that we hope will help make your #ACGME2024 planning a little easier!
Networking Opportunities and International Reception
There are plenty of opportunities, both formal and informal, to network with your GME peers from around the world at the Annual Educational Conference.
The annual International Reception will be held on the evening of Friday, 8 March. This is a wonderful informal opportunity to meet and greet with GME professionals from around the world, as well as with ACGME, ACGME Global Services, and ACGME International (ACGME-I) leadership and staff members. All conference attendees are welcome!
Ensconced within the Exhibit Hall will be the ACGME Hub, where you can speak with staff members representing various ACGME departments and initiatives. ACGME Global Services and ACGME-I will once again team up with a joint presence at this year’s Hub. Come by to chat with staff members from both teams and learn about their work, get your questions answered, or just say hello!
Enjoy the continental breakfasts and lunches during both main conference days while doing some networking. Maybe mix some work with pleasure while taking advantage of the facilities at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort and network on its award-winning golf course or in one of the many restaurants on site.
Other special events include the Marvin R. Dunn Welcoming Poster Reception and Exhibitor Kick-Off in the early evening of 7 March, which opens activities in the Exhibit Hall for both accepted poster presentations and vendors alike. The conference will close in the late afternoon of 9 March with a special Toast on the Terrace with ACGME Leadership, at which attendees and ACGME and ACGME-I staff members can mingle one last time to celebrate the learning and connections made during the previous days.
Poster Presentations
One of the highlights of the Annual Educational Conference is the poster presentations in the Exhibit Hall showcasing research and innovation in GME. As mentioned earlier, the Marvin R. Dunn Welcoming Poster Reception and Exhibitor Kick-Off marks the opening of the poster presentation area, where attendees can engage with researchers about their work. A select number of poster presenters will also be making oral presentations at two dedicated educational sessions during the conference, noted below.
Many international GME scholars will share their research and innovations at this year’s conference. Of the more than 75 posters selected for presentation, around 15 percent of them come from researchers at institutions outside of the United States. Topics these scholars are presenting reflect their diversity, with themes including how crises affect training, developing communications skills training, how e-training affects test reporting errors, and the impact and application of generative artificial intelligence in medical education.
Many collaborative research projects being presented have themselves been initiated by conversations at poster presentations during previous conferences, making this an excellent opportunity not just to learn about current research, but also to network with fellow researchers and innovators to find paths for future collaboration – and maybe the genesis of something that we will see presented at the 2025 Annual Educational Conference!
