Conference attendees can donate books of inspiration or other wish list items for homeless and at-risk LQBTQIA+ youth in the local Orlando community during open registration hours Wednesday, March 6. Cards from a local minority-owned business will be available to write messages of encouragement to send with the donations.
Additionally, on Thursday, March 7 during the Marvin R. Dunn Welcoming Poster Reception and Exhibitor Kick-Off, attendees can contribute to an interactive art piece that will be donated to Zebra Youth, a local organization providing programs and services designed to meet the unique needs of homeless and at-risk LGBTQIA+ youth.
More than 3,700 people have already registered for the conference. The hotel room block has sold out; view accommodation alternatives.
Annual Educational Conference Job Board
Recruiters, institutions, and programs can post open positions and reach thousands of graduate medical education (GME) community job seekers before and throughout the conference. At the conference, a dedicated area of the Exhibit Hall will have in-person recruiters and career resources.

Join a 45-minute online walkthrough of the new Remediation Toolkit on February 6, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. Central. There will be time for Q and A.
Authored by experts from across the US, the toolkit is intended to enhance the success and development of struggling learners across a number of domains, providing guidance on coaching professionalism, communication, clinical reasoning, and organization and efficiency. The webinar will offer an overview of the toolkit and its uses. The toolkit and the webinar are offered at no cost to the GME community.
NEW! Resident/Fellow and Faculty Surveys
The reporting period for the ACGME’s annual surveys will open February 12, 2024, and run for eight weeks, ending April 7, 2024. The ACGME anticipates that Sponsoring Institutions and programs will receive survey reports in early May.
The ACGME will continue to notify and remind Sponsoring Institutions and program leaders about the survey throughout the administration period. As in previous years, program leadership is charged with alerting survey takers about their participation using the existing mechanisms available within the Accreditation Data System (ADS). Program administrators should review and, if necessary, update their Resident/Fellow and Faculty Rosters in ADS before the surveys open to ensure accurate scheduling of survey participants.

NEW! ACGME Seeks Members for MUA/P Advisory Group
The ACGME seeks nominations of resident/fellow and senior clinical executive leader (e.g., chief executive officers, chief medical officers, chief nursing officers) for the MUA/P Advisory Group. This group provides consultation concerning implementation of the ACGME’s framework for MUA/P and GME. Nominations are due by March 17, 2024.
The senior clinical executive leader will serve up to three years with the option of renewing for an additional three-year term. Resident/fellow members will serve two-year terms. Self-nominations are accepted.

Direct Observation Toolkit Workshop
Explore the ACGME’s new Improving Assessment Using Direct Observation Toolkit with ACGME experts and toolkit authors. The toolkit offers faculty development curricula for institutions that can be adapted to local needs and provides individual faculty members with techniques that will help them become better educators. The toolkit is available at no cost to the GME community through the ACGME’s online learning portal, Learn at ACGME.

Program Site Visit Update
As part of its ongoing commitment to program improvement, the ACGME will conduct site visits annually for approximately one to two percent of programs with the status of Continued Accreditation. Programs will be selected through a random sampling process. The site visits will help assess program compliance with the Common Program Requirements and applicable specialty-specific Program Requirements in support of the ACGME's Mission.

Back to Bedside: Funding Available for Resident- and Fellow-Driven Projects
The ACGME's Back to Bedside initiative is designed to empower residents and fellows to develop transformative projects that foster meaning and joy in work and allow them to engage on a deeper level with what is at the heart of medicine: their patients.
This initiative supports resident- and fellow-directed innovations. Awardees participate in Learning Collaboratives throughout the funding period to workshop and refine their projects and develop leadership skills. The work is shared on a national platform in a variety of ways.
This Back to Bedside funding cycle offers two options for applicants to consider: Open Innovation proposals and Project in a Box - Focused Innovation proposals.
- The Open Innovation option is intended to provide flexibility for novel proposals.
- The Project in a Box - Focused Innovation option offers residents and fellows from all specialties a successful project example to use as inspiration for further innovation.

NEW! Call for Nominations for Resident Members of the JGME Editorial Board
JGME is seeking current residents or fellows for open resident editor positions on its Editorial Board. Selected editors will join a diverse board representing a wide range of specialties and institutions. The deadline for receipt of nomination materials is Monday, March 11, 2024. There are two resident/fellow editor positions:
- Position A: Residents or fellows who wish to learn about and participate in the manuscript submission to final decision process for JGME (up to four positions available)
- Position B: Residents or fellows who want to participate in the visual abstract program, for accepted articles (up to three positions available)
Candidates should email their CV and a brief letter of interest to jgme@acgme.org. The letter should include a statement that the applicant’s program director supports participation and whether the applicant is interested in position A or B.

It’s Time to Train Residents in Addiction Medicine

A prepared workforce is critical to meet the enormous treatment need of substance use disorders (SUDs). The authors call on GME leaders to address graduating residents’ lack of knowledge, skills, and confidence in treating patients with SUDs and state that success will depend on institutional champions at every level to implement new curriculum; faculty members with expertise; and realistic, integrated clinical experiences.
Multicenter Study of Optional In-Person Visits to Residency Programs After Virtual Interviews

This study required residency programs to finalize rank lists four weeks before the deadline and invited applicants for optional in-person visits after rank list finalization. A large majority of participating applicants and program directors believe that in-person visits should be offered after program rank list finalization as a more equitable process.
NEW! Call for Public Member
The following Review Committee seeks its next public member for a six-year term beginning July 1, 2024. Public members share the perspective of the public, foster public accountability, enrich the work of the Review Committee through outside expertise, and create transparency. While nominees cannot be physicians, other health care professionals are permitted if they are not employed by an organization with ACGME-accredited residency or fellowship programs.

THURSDAY! Submit Input for Major Revision of Program Requirements for Geriatric Medicine
The Review Committee for Internal Medicine is preparing for a major revision of the Program Requirements for the multidisciplinary subspecialty of geriatric medicine (internal medicine and family medicine). In particular, the committee invites comments related to specific requirements or topics that should be addressed as the revised Program Requirements are developed.

Note: Changes to the ACGME Common Program Requirements are not within the purview of the Review Committee and, therefore, comments related to Common Program Requirements, indicated by bold font in the Requirements document, should not be submitted and will not be considered.
Leadership Skills Training Program for Chief Residents 2024 Dates Announced
The Leadership Skills Training Program for Chief Residents is designed to provide a transitional experience into the role of chief resident. The program introduces leadership concepts to enhance individual effectiveness in a leadership role.
The program is three full days and is open to chief residents from all medical and surgical specialties.
