Dr. Katherine Marsh is currently a general surgery resident at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Prior to surgical residency, she graduated summa cum laude and with honors from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science degree in neuroscience and psychology. She continued there to earn her Doctorate in Medicine with distinctions in leadership and innovation, commitment to underserved people, and research. She has continued to invest in academic medicine, demonstrating interest in education, research, and policy.
Dr. Marsh’s research has spanned the spectrum of basic science to translational science to outcomes research. She was recently a research fellow on a National Institutes of Health T32 training grant; these research efforts have resulted in her publishing more than 20 publications and two book chapters. During her research time, Dr. Marsh additionally earned a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Virginia. Most recently, her research has focused on medical and surgical errors. Dr. Marsh’s policy interests are also broad. She has written multiple resolutions related to both undergraduate and graduate medical education.
She has previously served on the Boards of two state societies, as well as on a council of the American Medical Association. Dr. Marsh considers it the utmost privilege to represent the resident voice on the ACGME Board of Directors and is grateful for the opportunity.
